In this lesson, we'll talk about adding decals to a model. After completing this lesson, you'll be able to add a decal and edit an appearance. With our scene set up and some basic appearances applied, let's now start to talk about applying decals to help with branding our image. Now, in our case there's not a whole lot of surface area to apply a decal to. But let's explore the process and let's try to apply a small decal to the front of this design to make sure everybody knows who created it. So we're going to start from our SETUP menu and select DECAL. We first need to select the face that we want to apply it to. I'm going to select the small front face here to apply a small decal. Next, let's select the image. Navigate to Course 3, Week 4 Dataset, and use the Autodesk Logo Transparency. Now notice, as we look at this, we're not seeing it. We need to wait for a second to make sure that everything comes in properly. And you may need to scale it up or down. Now I want to zoom in, and notice that this logo is actually white. So it's hard to see when we're looking at it on a white plastic body, but that's okay. For right now, we just want to make sure that we scale it to be the appropriate size. And once we're okay with the size, we'll go ahead and say OK. Now let's do a little bit more to customize the appearance of our design. So I'm going to hit A on the keyboard, and scroll down into the Library. We're going to go into the Other section. We're going to look at Carbon Fiber material. We're going to download Carbon Fiber-Twill. And let's apply that to our design. When we apply that carbon fiber material, we can now see a bit more what the logo is going to look like. Let's go ahead and close this, and take a look at the design. So as we rotate it around that looks pretty good, and of course this isn't realistic, because we're going to do a 3D print, but it gives a great look for our renders. Now if we want to edit the decal, we can go back into the design. So let's expand XSTAR, and notice that we have A Decals folder, with Autodesk Logo Transparent. We're going to edit the decal. Go to our front view, and make sure that we move it down so that the entire logo is visible. If we want to, we can apply the logo on the side face as well. So let's go ahead, Select DECAL. We use this face, select the same Autodesk Logo Transparent. And in this case we're going to rotate it around, Maybe scale it up a little bit. And place it on that front landing gear. Now we can follow this same process all the way around to make sure that we get all the branding we need. Once you're happy with the placement of your decals and the position of the model, go ahead and save your file.
