[MUSIC] Hello, and very welcome to the course of Operational Finance at IESE Business School, part of Coursera of Foundations of Management. Now here we are at the top terrace of the business school and we have Barcelona at our feet. Now what is operational finance, what is this course about? Now we're going to look at basically understanding he financial statements of a company. Where you have the profit and losses statement, the balance sheet statement, and how to use that information to make decisions in the company. Not just financial decisions, but decisions that affect many other aspects in the company, like operations, marketing, and many others. To give you an example, every company that we have in our back of Barcelona you have the airport. Then you have the port. Then you have a museum. You have a hotel. If you see the back and you are a Barcelona supporter, you have the football stadium. You have the Sagrada Familia with the cranes. Now, all those companies have something in common. That is, they use financial information summarized in the very few financial statements which are profit and loss statement and balance sheet statement. All then, all companies in the world have a source of revenue and they have to manage all the revenues and to manage the customers to manage also their suppliers. Now understanding the managing of customers, suppliers, and how we get then paid, and how we pay them how we manage the financing, the credit lines that companies need. Those are the kinds of things that we're going see in this course. Now, by the end of the course, you will be probably very capable of understanding those financial statements and understanding the situation of each company. You could see with the financial statements how to make a decision of the future or how to understand which problems the company might have. So I look forward to having you in this course. And together we're going to go through all these concepts, and especially using a case that is in a way the best way of understanding the different concepts and how they apply to practice. So very welcome to the Foundations of Management, the Operational Finance part. [MUSIC]
