About the Course

Back-end developers write applications that end-users use to interact with databases. Some common tasks that end-users carry out using these applications include storing, searching, extracting and manipulating data. Therefore, it’s essential that all back-end developers possess strong knowledge and experience with how databases work. In this course, you’ll receive an introduction to databases and explore the different ways in which they can be used to store and manage data. You’ll also learn to distinguish between different types of database management systems. You’ll then practice basic creation and data selection tasks with the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) commands. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to: - Demonstrate a working knowledge of the concepts and principles that underpin how databases work - Identify and explain the different types of core technology and management systems used in databases - Identify and interpret basic SQL statements and commands - Manipulate records in a database with the use of SQL statements and commands - Outline alternatives to SQL - and plan and design a simple relational database system You’ll also gain experience with the following: - Fundamental concepts in database - Basic MySQL syntax and commands - Database management systems - Relational databases...

It was a informative and precise course with sufficient labs to get hands on.

I found Normalization is pretty tricky to implement. More detailed readings shall help me improve and gain confidence.

They do not teach Databases and SQL anywhere like here. Meta sure does Software Engineering very differently. If you want to be the best, I guess you ought to learn from the best.

The final quiz instructions/answers are technically incorrect given the question asked and diagrams provided. Question 10 in particular is a problem for multiple reasons: The column name is incorrect compared to the correct answer and the instructions themselves are incorrect, hinting to only fill in the blank information and yet the example used to base this blank information contains brackets which the answer expects.

Good introduction to databases. But there are some mistakes in question still. Like there were questions that started like "How to update table" while available answer options contained only "update" SQL statements. E.g. meaning question should be "How to update a record", because to update table "alter" SQL statememnt should be used.

The course covered all main concepts of database development, with many opportunities for practice. There were small errors in some of the readings. It would be great if the autors also added how to work with MySQL from the command line. Otherwise I would recommend this course as an introduction to databases to aspiring developers.

Last knowledge test at the end of the course did not shown where the mistake was, I reviewed all lessons that were advised to review and the answer was correct, but still was marked as wrong. There is something to be corrected there.

Excellent Course. This Course is not in detail. Database administrations features are not covered such as user authentication etc. Also triggers , functions , logs and other related stuff is missing.

teaches fundamentals of Sql, it would be nice if thy had some lectures about nosql, like mongodb. The final evaluation however is quite buggy. Also please make the instructions a bit clearer.

This cours is overall a good course to resfresh or learn the basis of SQL, but the tests could be better, especially the last one (it has a lot of formatting problems).
